On Friday 15 March our Under 11 A Squad girls headed to Fenton Manor Sports Centre in Stoke on Trent for the BSGA Milano Teams National Finals.
It was the first time these girls had attended a BSGA National competition, so they were a little daunted by the size of the arena and large spectator area, but they managed to put their nerves behind them to perform a sturdy set of clean and well executed routines.
First up were the individual Floor routines from Katerina, Elizabeth and Alexandra. All girls were on top form, scoring between 13.00 and 13.70 out of a possible 16.00. The top scorer of the day was given 14.30 so they weren’t far behind!
Next up were the Vaults from Mara, Alexandra and Katerina, with some fantastic scores – 14.40, 14.60 and 14.70, again out of 16. There was a bit of a wait for the Group Sequence and nerves were mounting as one of the group balances wasn’t going to plan during their warm up. But, they had nothing to worry about because they performed it perfectly to the judges displaying huge amounts of confidence. They were given 25.10 for their routine which was second highest of all 21 teams!
The overall total was 108.90, putting Maltman’s in 6th place. The girls scooped a Bronze medal for the Regional section of the competition and also placed 3rd for being part of the Southern Region which was calculated by adding the U11 girls, U11 Mixed and U11 boys scores together.
Congratulations to all the girls and their coaches, Miss Owen and Miss Timmins, such fantastic results!
