Each year a group of girls from the Year 5 Netball Squad, travel to Sedbergh School in the Yorkshire Dales, to attend a 4 day, 3 night Netball Training Camp at Sedbergh School. During the 4 day course the girls develop their netball skills in all areas; attacking, defending, marking, shooting and tactical game play. They also have time to take part in some fun games and activities off the courts too.
“After a very early start, we met Miss Clarke and Mrs Sargeant at 6.20am. We boarded the mini-bus and prepared for a very long and boring 6 hours. Time went quite quickly as we sped it up with lots of card games and some singing. We arrived marveling at the sight. It was beautiful.
Next we had an intensive netball session for three hours and we walked to our house where the netball and athletics girls were staying. We had two rooms between ten people – six in one and four in the other. We then had dinner and took part in an evening session.
On Tuesday we were all awake by 7.30am ready for an exciting first morning. We had breakfast which was delicious, and then went straight to the courts to do netball. We learnt about G.O.L.D, which means Growth; Originality; Leadership; and Determination. We did fun games and exciting activities with capture the flag and cat and mouse. After, we met with the rugby players and played a lot of netball and rugby games. The girls won, obviously, and annoyingly the boys kept cheating!
On the third day after another tiring session of netball, we had a big BBQ and party with the athletics and rugby boys. We started by playing on the inflatables. There was an assault cause, which the boys kept messing about on, and a rock climbing wall, which was really fun. There were a few other things but none that were as good as the silent disco. I wish that I had gone earlier as it was the best part of my trip. We had so much fun. At one point four of the Maltman’s girls went up against four of the rugby crew – I think you can guess who won….us! The team was made up of Caterina with her awesome helicopter, Lottie with her funky dance steps, Genevieve with her hip-hop, and Alessia with the all-time favourite – the worm!
The next morning we had a netball tournament with the Ninja Chickens versus the Cheesy Moons. It was very close but the Cheesy Moons won by three goals. The final score was 8:5.
Sadly, we then had to say our farewells to all the wonderful coaches and retreat to the mini-bus for the journey home. We would like to thank everyone who made this trip possible as we all had an amazing time.”
