6th May 22
It was a successful bank holiday weekend for our Year 6 Performance Squad at The British Schools Gymnastics Association Floor & Vault, and Acro & Tumbling National Finals last weekend.
On Saturday, our U11 team- Layla, Georgia, Amber, Tallulah, Evelyn and Jessica, took to the floor bright and early at Fenton Manor in Stoke-On-Trent. The girls wowed the judges with their beautifully tidy routines, which set them in good stead for a top spot overall. Layla topped our group on Floor with 14.63 placing 4th.
Onto Vault, and the girls put out 10 very powerful Handsprings with some landings to stick! Our scores ranged from 15.20 to 15.60, reflecting the girls excellent work! Amber topped our group with 15.60, which was the highest score in the entire competition!
We had a tense wait while watching the other teams perform and waiting for our overall placing, but finally the results were in and our team was announced in 2nd place – National Champion runners up!
Shortly after, Evelyn and Amber were in the spotlight, competing in the Tumbling section of the competition. The girls performed 3 different tumbles each, with their scores then averaged to get their final totals. Both girls first runs were their highest, with scores of 9.05 for Evelyn (1st) and 8.80 for Amber (3rd) out of 10.00.
Another anxious wait, while we watched the other competitors perform, with our scores constantly changing positions on the score board. But Evelyn held her position throughout, and was very deservingly crowned U11 BSGA National Tumbling Champion 2022!
On Sunday, the girls were back at it and ready to perform! Up first were Tallulah and Amber with their pair routine. They performed a fantastically expressive and well executed routine scoring 8.05 out of 10.00, placing them in 4th place. Afterwards we saw the scores and realised they were extremely close with a difference of just 0.35 between 1st and 5th!
Last up of the weekend was our Acro Group routine, involving all 6 girls and lots of balances! They performed a wonderfully bubbly routine with very little marks given away in execution. Our team finished in 2nd place, adding silvers to their medal haul!
Congratulations to all the girls involved in these National Championships. To make it through to a national event is a huge achievement, but to come away with medals in every category is outstanding! This was also our Year 6 girls’ last competition with Maltman’s, completing their very successful and highly decorated U11 Gymnastics streak.
Thank you to our Year 6 coach – Mrs Owen-Cavaliere, for your hard work with the girls inside of school, and Laura Timmins for your support and work outside of school.
