10th March 23
This week the world recognised International Women’s Day. Here at Maltman’s Green School we are proud to be celebrating the achievements of women everywhere. At Maltman’s Green School, we recognise the importance of providing our girls with the opportunity to develop the skills they need to become the leaders and entrepreneurs of the future. We are dedicated to creating a supportive and encouraging environment for our pupils to flourish and reach their potential.
International Women’s Day is an important event celebrated around the world on the 8th of March each year. It has its origins in the early 1900s. Women sought to raise awareness of their rights, working conditions, and access to education and work opportunities. International Women’s Day has evolved to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world. Our school roots are firmly entwined with the Suffragette movement. The school colours are a daily reminder of how important it is to celebrate our commitment to empowering our girls.
We have several initiatives to develop the skills our girls will need for the future. The school nurtures business acumen with a Year 6 Enrichment Enterprise Scheme, fostering an innovative spirit and encouraging our girls to be creative, think strategically and develop skills such as business planning, product design, marketing and sales whilst managing costs and maximising sales.
Throughout the school our girls take part in the House Charity Fundraising Initiative to give the girls the opportunity for hands-on business experience, designing, making and marketing products to sell to their peers to raise money for their chosen charities.
We want our girls to be confident and inspiring leaders, able to prioritise, adapt and be risk takers open to change. The Sports Leaders Awards Scheme to teaches the girls how to be a good leader and to give them the opportunities to inspire and teach younger students.
At Maltman’s Green we have an innovative approach to STEAM education that prepares girls for the world of work. With a curriculum incorporating product design, prototyping and production, marketing plans and design of marketing materials, the programme encourages girls to think for themselves as professional product designers.
Effective communication is a cruicial skill that will prepare our girls for the world of work. Understanding what matters to different audiences, to be interested in others, listening and understanding the importance of empathy and respect when building strong relationships. The girls are given opportunities to speak publically, to represent the school and chat with prospective parents at open days, to host events for partner organisations and by visiting care homes to interact with older generations.
Our Year six girls are given unique opportunities to experience and learn skills relevant to today’s market place. They are able to collaborate with our Head of Marketing to try roles such as Assistant Editors to the weekly newsletter, Content Marketeers, Digital and Video Marketeers, Journalists, Podcast Producers and Hosts.
Career related learning at Maltman’s Green starts in Pre-Prep, with the intention of inspiring our girls to experience strong female role models from a variety of careers. Visitors are invited in to chat with the girls regularly. In Prep a dedicated day, for prominent female professionals, introduces pupils to a range of job opportunities and includes talks by Criminal Lawyers, Accountants, Scientists, Doctors, Film Producers, Tech Entrepreneurs and many more.
