In early May our Year 4 girls set off on their residential trip to Swanage. This was the first residential trip for the girls, and it was exciting and daunting in equal measure.
The destination was the Allnat Outdoors centre, a leading outdoors, residential provider in the UK. The first adventure was a walk along the coastal path, during which the girls took part in fun, educational activities such as making ‘perfume pots’ using plants like wild garlic; tree finding while blind-folded; and looking at and listening to the woodland canopy. At the Allnatt Centre, there was great excitement as the girls found out who was sharing rooms and began to settle in. The day ended with stories and songs around a campfire.
The following day the girls walked from Studland Bay to Old Harry Rocks. Along the way, they learnt about the different creatures that live in the sea as well as different types of rocks. Some of them even managed to collect a few keepsakes from the beach to take home with them. During a picnic lunch, the field trip leaders from the Allnat Centre explained how Old Harry Rocks were formed. All the while, the weather was kind and even the very dark clouds did not dampen spirits or produce any rain to spoil the amazing views across to Poole and Southampton. Back at the centre, the girls spent the evening playing a pirate game, which involved making a map to find treasure.
Exploring the History of Swanage was the theme for the last day. The girls were given a map of the town and a trail to follow. Along this they encountered some characters from the past including a Viking, a Victorian Lady and George Burt who told them about the history of Swanage. The activity ended with a visit to the souvenir shop before heading back to the Allnat Centre for lunch. Then, it was back on to the coach for the return trip to school
This was a very enjoyable trip with lots of fun, laughter and learning.
