On December 14 2018, 4 of our Under 11 A squad girls competed at the BSGA Milano Regionals at St Mary’s School in Gerrards Cross.
Our girls were in the second round of the competition which enabled them to have a long warm-up and run through their routines until they felt comfortable and their nerves had subsided.
The first apparatus was Vault. After a couple of warm-up vaults to get used to the bounce of the springboard, all 3 of our vaulters scored between 14.80 and 15.30 out of a possible 16.00 – a fantastic start to the competition. Next up was Floor, where the girls performed some beautifully elegant routines scoring between 13.20 and 14.40. These scores were high enough to put us in the lead with just the group sequence to go.
The group sequence is a 1 minute 30 seconds routine performed by all 4 girls at the same time, using canon, unison, group balances and gymnastics skills. They had a long wait for their turn, but kept warm by repeating the routine numerous times in the practice area. Finally, they were up, Although the girls made a brilliant effort an unfortunate wobble during a balance lost them 2 marks, pushing them into second place overall.
The girls took home the silver medal for the Southern Region and secured themselves a spot at the National Finals on March 15 2019. A brilliant result.
